Officers responded shortly after midnight Tuesday to a reported shooting on Aquarium Way in Long Beach. Two people were transported to a hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, while a third person received treatment at the scene.
Police located the suspect vehicle near Burnett Street and Pacific Avenue, and a pursuit began. The vehicle entered the northbound 710 Freeway, where the suspect fired at officers and they returned fire. No one was struck during the exchange.
The chase continued until the suspect vehicle collided with a power pole and fire hydrant near Santa Fe Avenue and 11th Street in downtown Los Angeles. The impact caused a power outage and sent water into nearby streets.
Investigators recovered a firearm at the scene. Northbound lanes of the 710 Freeway remain closed at Long Beach Boulevard along with connectors to the 91 Freeway while the investigation continues, according to ABC7 Los Angeles.
