California Fish and Wildlife officials are evaluating how to release three bears that have become confined inside a structure that resembles a water cistern near La Verne.
The animals came to attention on Saturday when two cyclists heard vocalizations suggesting distress along the Marshall Canyon Trail. Upon locating the bears, the cyclists contacted authorities to report the situation.
Relatives who filmed the scene offered accounts of their observations. Tyler Christensen described looking into the opening and noting one bear positioned on a small pole, appearing frightened. Bradney Boli remarked that the bears were fortunate, as the sounds would not have been easy to detect.
Given the site's characteristics and the need to protect the animals, officials have asked the public to steer clear of the area during the rescue operation, according to ABC7 Los Angeles.
