A fully loaded commercial truck disappeared from Montclair on Thursday, taking with it roughly 40,000 pounds of Pabst Blue Ribbon beer, or more than 50,000 cans. The incident has drawn attention because of the size of the cargo and the possibility that it ranks among the largest beer thefts on record.
Pabst Blue Ribbon confirmed the loss through its official social media channels, describing the missing shipment and vehicle without providing details on how the truck was taken or its current location. Authorities have released no information on suspects or leads, and it remains unclear whether the beer remains in one place or has been moved elsewhere.
In an initial social media statement the company wrote, "STOLEN - 40,000lbs of beer." It followed with a direct message to the person responsible: "To the thief: we don't fault you for wanting to brag to your friends how much PBR you have, we just wish you obtained it the honorable way."
The brewery set a firm timeline, stating that anyone returning the truck within 18 days and 44 minutes would face no questions and that a reward would be offered for helpful information. A later post noted the passage of time with the line, "Beer is getting warmer, trail is getting colder. Clock's still ticking," while adding that the matter is genuine.
