The Linda Lindas, a band from Los Angeles, have released their third album titled Gotta Get Out, marking their debut on a major label. The group, which includes sisters Lucia and Mila de la Garza along with cousin Eloise Wong and friend Bela Salazar, is moving past perceptions tied to their youth.
According to LAist, the band gained attention five years ago after a performance at a local library went viral online. At that time, drummer Mila de la Garza was just 10 years old, and the members often balanced shows with schoolwork.
Lucia de la Garza noted that some still view them as a “kid band,” even though the group has matured significantly. The band formed eight years ago for a one-time festival appearance that led to ongoing performances.
For the new album, the members collaborated in person in locations around Los Angeles, Long Beach, and Palm Springs without distractions like phones. They produced around 30 songs, selecting 12 for the record, which was produced by their father, Carlos de la Garza.
The album incorporates elements of new wave, power pop, and hardcore in addition to punk. Its lyrics address topics such as climate change, fascism, and economic issues, including a track called “Blood on Our Hands” that calls for personal action on global problems.
The band is set to tour extensively across the United States and Canada this fall, including a performance opening for Jimmy Eat World at the Hollywood Bowl in November. They will also headline their own shows next month.
