A Los Angeles County judge has set an August 2027 trial date for a lawsuit claiming a rider suffered a traumatic brain injury on the X2 roller coaster at Six Flags Magic Mountain.
Sheila Katerelos, 56, and her husband Ari filed the action, which includes allegations of negligence and product liability tied to the February 16, 2020 ride. Chatsworth Superior Court Judge Michael O'Gara assigned the start date of August 16, 2027.
Magic Mountain LLC and Six Flags Theme Park Inc. were removed as defendants in May 2024. An appeals panel later restored manufacturer S&S Worldwide Inc. to the case after finding issues remained about the ride design.
The coaster has been linked to other medical events. Christopher Hawley, 22, died the day after riding in June 2022 from a subdural hematoma, and his family's wrongful death claim was settled before trial.
Two additional riders faced serious head injuries in July 2024. Pamela Guillen, 40, required skull surgery after her July 5 ride, and Naomi Greer-Wilkinson, 25, underwent emergency brain surgery and entered a coma following her July 11 ride.
The attraction has stayed closed since the July 2024 incidents while Cal/OSHA examines its mechanics and safety measures. The Katerelos litigation will move forward with pretrial steps.
According to FOX 11 Los Angeles, the financial terms of the Hawley settlement stay private, and no public details have emerged on prior warnings about possible defects.
