Asian retailers that first opened stores in the Los Angeles area are now posting some of the fastest sales growth in the United States and moving into new markets, according to LAist.

Miniso ranks first on the National Retail Federation Hot 25 Retailers list with sales growth of nearly 53 percent. The Chinese gift retailer opened its initial American location in Pasadena more than nine years ago and plans to reach nearly 500 U.S. stores this year.

Daiso places third on the list with almost 26 percent growth. Fast Retailing, parent of Uniqlo, stands sixth, and 99 Ranch Market ranks fifteenth.

David Marcotte of Kantar, who helped compile the list, said success in Southern California’s crowded market often prepares chains for other regions because customers there demand high quality and a strong experience.

Marcotte noted that the area’s proximity to Asia made it a natural entry point, yet he warned retailers to open only one store at first and refine operations, since a misstep can end expansion plans entirely.

He added that chains focused on Asian products perform best when they serve the full range of Chinese, Filipino and other Asian shoppers rather than targeting one group, a model followed by 99 Ranch Market since its founding in 1984.
