A youth mariachi ensemble from Riverside has taken first place at the 2026 National Mariachi Championship held in Anaheim. The victory marks the culmination of the group's performances throughout the year and brings national recognition to its members.
Mariachi Campana de Riverside is affiliated with the Riverside Arts Academy in the Inland Empire. The ensemble's success this year follows consistent preparation and participation in multiple events focused on traditional mariachi music.
Local arts leaders have attributed the achievement to long-term support for music education initiatives in the region. They note that such programs provide students with opportunities to develop skills and perform at high levels.
Alex Treviño, who leads Mariachi Campana, described the broader meaning of the win. "This championship represents far more than a trophy," he said. "It reflects the countless hours our students have dedicated to their craft, the support of their families, and the belief that music has the power to transform lives. We are incredibly proud of every student who stepped onto that stage and represented Riverside with excellence."
Earlier in the spring the group earned third place at the Tucson International Mariachi Conference. The national title adds to that result and highlights the ensemble's progress, according to ABC7 Los Angeles reporting.
