A shooting reported shortly after midnight in Long Beach injured three individuals and set off a police pursuit that reached downtown Los Angeles. Officers arrived at the 200 block of Aquarium Way around 12:24 a.m. after receiving calls about gunfire, according to FOX 11 Los Angeles.
Two of the victims were taken by paramedics to a nearby hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening wounds. The third person received care for similar injuries at the scene itself.
Police spotted the suspect vehicle near Burnett Street and Pacific Avenue. The driver fled when officers tried to approach, leading to a chase northbound on the 710 Freeway.
During the pursuit the suspect fired at pursuing officers, which prompted an officer-involved shooting. The chase ended when the suspect's vehicle struck a pole in downtown Los Angeles.
Authorities recovered a firearm at the scene and took the suspect into custody. The individual was transported to a hospital for injuries from the collision. No details on the suspect's identity or motive have been released, and the investigation remains active.
