Los Angeles County sheriff's investigators are handling two distinct death cases after bodies were pulled from the Dominguez Channel in Carson on consecutive days, according to FOX 11 Los Angeles.
The first discovery occurred just past noon on September 1 near the Dominguez Channel Bike Path at the 20000 block of South Avalon Boulevard. A person at the nearby Victoria Golf Course noticed the body of a young female floating in the water and contacted emergency services.
Medical examiners placed the girl's age between 6 and 12 years old, with a height of 4 feet 4 inches to 4 feet 8 inches and a weight of 60 to 80 pounds. She had dark brown or black hair and brown eyes, though decomposition prevented further physical details or identification.
Detectives are reviewing prior contacts with homeless outreach teams, searching for surveillance footage in the area, and preparing composite sketches to help identify the child. Autopsy results are still pending to determine the cause and manner of death.
The second body was located around 8:30 a.m. on September 2 in the 2100 block of East Sepulveda Boulevard near East Del Amo Boulevard. A refinery employee spotted the unresponsive individual and alerted authorities, who responded and set up a privacy screen at the scene.
Firefighters recovered the body of a Black man estimated to be in his 50s, who had been deceased for less than a day. No obvious signs of injury or criminal activity were noted during initial examination, and there was limited homeless presence nearby.
Both cases remain under active investigation, with deputies checking missing persons reports and seeking additional video or witness information. The channel runs through several South Bay communities, and officials have asked anyone with relevant details to contact the Homicide Bureau or Crime Stoppers.
